Apprenticeship cover letter example
An apprenticeship cover letter names the apprenticeship and its level, gives your grades in English and maths, and shows one thing you have made or fixed. Then say why you want to train with this employer, not just any.
Fictional letter from Kieran Walsh, the applicant in the apprentice cv example. Every person and employer in it is invented.
Why each paragraph is there
I am applying for your Engineering Maintenance Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship starting next September. I have a Level 2 Diploma in Engineering at Merit and GCSEs including maths at grade 6, combined science 6-6 and English language 5.
The apprenticeship, its level and the grades the advert asks for.
At college I fault-found motors and gearboxes in the workshop, and at home I rebuilt a 50cc scooter engine: I measured the wear, ordered the parts and kept a log of every step. Finding out why something has stopped working is the part I enjoy most.
One practical example, told in steps, and what you like about the work.
Since leaving college I have worked full time in a builders' merchant warehouse, where I check deliveries, count stock each week and follow the yard's safety rules. I would like to train with Midshires because your apprentices work on the production lines from the first year.
A job that shows you are reliable, then why this employer.
My CV is attached. I can come to an assessment day at any time. Thank you for considering my application.
Availability for the assessment and a polite close.
