Internship cover letter example
An internship cover letter should say why this firm and this programme in specific terms, then back it with your course, your marks and one thing you have done outside study. Recruiters read many; a generic first line loses them.
Fictional letter from Aisha Rahman, the applicant in the internship cv example. Every person and employer in it is invented.
Why each paragraph is there
I am applying for your 2027 ten-week Summer Internship in investment analysis. I am a second-year Economics student at Castle Hill University with a 72% average, and I would like to start my career in a firm that invests in growing regional businesses, as Lowther Brook does.
The programme, your course and grade, and a specific reason for this firm.
My strongest modules are Econometrics (78%) and Financial Markets (74%). For a group project I forecast local house prices from public data in Excel and presented the model to a panel; it received the top mark in the cohort.
Modules and a project that match the work, with results.
As treasurer of the 400-member Investment Society I manage a £6,000 budget and report our accounts to the students' union each term, and I work 12 hours a week in a bookshop during term. Both have taught me to keep accurate records and meet deadlines alongside my degree.
Responsibility outside your course, and what it shows.
My CV is attached. Thank you for considering my application, and I look forward to hearing from you.
The CV and a polite close.
