A short message to adapt
If the advert asks for a cover letter, attach it and keep the email short. If not, the email can do the job of a brief letter.
Dear Ms Shah, I would like to apply for the Project Support Officer role (NCP-247) advertised on your website. I attach my CV and a cover letter. I am available for interview at any time and can be reached on 07700 900105. Thank you for your time. Kind regards, Hannah Price
File type and name
Our templates download as Word and PDF; the CV builder makes a Word file you can save as PDF.
- Send a PDF unless the advert asks for Word: it looks the same on every device.
- Name the file with your name and the document: “Hannah-Price-CV.pdf”, not “CV final v3.docx”.
- Keep it to one file per document, and under a few megabytes.
- Do not send a link to an online document unless the employer asks for one.
Before you press send
If the employer uses an online form or portal instead of email, follow that route; an emailed CV may not be considered.
- Open the attachment from the email draft and look at every page.
- Check the employer's name and the job title are right in the email, the letter and the file names.
- Send from an address with your name, not a nickname.
- Send a test to yourself first if you are unsure how it looks.
