Mechanic cover letter example
A mechanic's cover letter is short and practical: the job, your qualifications, what you work on and how many jobs a week, and why this garage. A service manager reads it for the training and the diagnostic skill the workshop needs.
Fictional letter from Connor Doyle, the applicant in the mechanic cv example. Every person and employer in it is invented.
Why each paragraph is there
I am applying for the Diagnostic Technician role at Charnwood Vehicle Centre. I am a qualified light vehicle technician with a Level 3 apprenticeship, and I have worked at Wigston Lane Autos for seven years, four of them qualified.
The job, your qualification and your experience in one go.
I service and repair 25 to 30 cars and vans a week and do most of the garage's electrical fault-finding, using Autel and Bosch scan tools. I hold the IMI Level 3 award for electric and hybrid vehicles and carry out high-voltage isolation on the hybrids we see.
Your workload, your diagnostic kit and your electric vehicle training.
Before any work starts I explain the fault and the cost to the customer, and I record every job on the garage system. Your workshop's growing number of hybrid and electric fleet vans is the work I want to specialise in.
Customer and paperwork skills, then why this garage.
My CV is attached, and I can start after four weeks' notice. I would be glad to come in for a trade test. Thank you for considering my application.
Notice period and an offer of a trade test.
