Combination CV template

A combination CV, also called a hybrid CV, opens with three or four key skills, each backed by a line of evidence, then lists your jobs newest first. Use it when your skills come from more than one job but your history is steady enough to show in full.

Fictional example for an office and facilities manager. Every person and employer in it is invented; replace every detail with your own. Select the page to open it full size.

Before you use it

A combination CV takes more space than a chronological one. If your recent jobs already show the skills the advert wants, the chronological CV says the same thing more directly; if your dates are the weak part, the skills-based CV may suit you better.

How to use this template

01

Pick three or four skills from the advert

The skills summary should mirror what the employer asks for most. Use the advert's own words for the headings where they are true for you.

02

Prove each skill once, with a number

Under each skill, one line with a result is enough. The full detail sits in the work history below, where the employer can check the dates.

03

Keep the history complete

Unlike a skills-based CV, a combination CV still lists every job in date order, so nothing looks hidden.

04

Don't repeat yourself

If a result appears in the skills summary, use a different example in the job entry, or keep the job entry short.

If the employer asks for a particular file type, a page limit or an application form, do what they ask, even where this page suggests otherwise. CV format and file types explains the choices.
