Fictional example for a marketing executive. Every person and employer in it is invented; replace every detail with your own. Select the page to open it full size.

Before you use it

Two columns save space and look current, but some application systems read the side band before or after the main column, which can mix up your history. Email or hand this file to a person, and keep a Plain version for online portals.

How to use this template

01

Put scannable facts in the side band

Contact details, skills, tools and languages are things a recruiter checks, not reads. The side band lets them find those in seconds and leaves the main column for what you did.

02

Keep the main column for results

Each job gets three or four bullets that start with what you did and end with what changed. Numbers such as a click rate or a budget make a line easy to believe.

03

Keep skills you can prove

Every skill in the side band should appear in a bullet on the right. If it does not, either add the evidence or take the skill out.

04

Send Plain to portals

Some application systems read two columns in the wrong order. When you apply through a portal, use the editor to switch this CV to the Plain design and upload that file.

If the employer asks for a particular file type, a page limit or an application form, do what they ask, even where this page suggests otherwise. CV format and file types explains the choices.
