Pilot cover letter example
A pilot’s cover letter repeats the facts the recruiter screens on, then shows how you fly with a crew. Name the fleet, give your licence, hours and medical, describe the flying you do now, and pick one event you handled as a first officer.

Dear Captain Calloway
Application for First Officer, Boeing 787 fleet
I am applying for the First Officer role on your Boeing 787 fleet. I have flown the Airbus A320 for Northway Airways for five years, with 3,700 hours in total and 3,500 on type, and I hold a full Airline Transport Pilot Licence and a current Class 1 medical.
I fly four to six sectors a day to about 40 European airports, sharing pilot flying and monitoring with the captain, and I plan each flight with them from the weather, slots and fuel. My simulator and line checks are current, the most recent in September 2026.
In 2024 I ran the checklists and radio calls on a weather diversion while the captain briefed the cabin crew and passengers. Long-haul flying on your North American routes is the next step I want in my career.
My CV is attached, and I can bring my logbook and licence to an assessment. Thank you for considering my application.
Yours sincerely
Daniel Ashcroft

Why each paragraph is there
I am applying for the First Officer role on your Boeing 787 fleet. I have flown the Airbus A320 for Northway Airways for five years, with 3,700 hours in total and 3,500 on type, and I hold a full Airline Transport Pilot Licence and a current Class 1 medical.
The fleet, then the licence, hours and medical the recruiter screens on.
I fly four to six sectors a day to about 40 European airports, sharing pilot flying and monitoring with the captain, and I plan each flight with them from the weather, slots and fuel. My simulator and line checks are current, the most recent in September 2026.
The flying you do now, and checks with a date.
In 2024 I ran the checklists and radio calls on a weather diversion while the captain briefed the cabin crew and passengers. Long-haul flying on your North American routes is the next step I want in my career.
One event that shows how you work in a crew, then why this fleet.
My CV is attached, and I can bring my logbook and licence to an assessment. Thank you for considering my application.
The CV, and the documents they will check.
