Web developer cover letter example

A web developer's cover letter is short: the role and your stack, one thing you built with a number for what changed, how you test, and why this team. Engineering managers skim it for the same words as the advert, so use them where they are true.

Dear Mr Hallam

Application for Full Stack Developer

I am applying for the Full Stack Developer role at Ledgerline. I have six years at Northern Quarter Digital, the first two as an apprentice, building websites and web apps in TypeScript, React and Next.js with Node.js and PostgreSQL behind them.

This year I rebuilt a charity's donation pages in Next.js. They now load in under 2 seconds on a mid-range phone, down from 6, and I built the Node.js API that keeps a retail client's online stock in step with its warehouse every 15 minutes. Every change I make goes through code review and automated tests, and I check accessibility to WCAG 2.2 AA with a screen reader as well as tools.

I would like to move from client projects to one product I can keep improving. Ledgerline's invoicing app is used by small firms every day, and your note in the advert about shipping small changes often is how I like to work.

My CV is attached and my GitHub is linked in it. I can start after one month's notice. Thank you for considering my application.

Yours sincerely
Ibrahim Sesay

Why each paragraph is there

  1. I am applying for the Full Stack Developer role at Ledgerline. I have six years at Northern Quarter Digital, the first two as an apprentice, building websites and web apps in TypeScript, React and Next.js with Node.js and PostgreSQL behind them.

The job, your route and your stack in the advert's words.

One build with a measured result, then how you know your work holds.

  3. I would like to move from client projects to one product I can keep improving. Ledgerline's invoicing app is used by small firms every day, and your note in the advert about shipping small changes often is how I like to work.

Why this team, from the advert or the product.

  4. My CV is attached and my GitHub is linked in it. I can start after one month's notice. Thank you for considering my application.

Where to find the code, and notice.
