How Caffè Nero takes applications

How you applyWhat it meansWhat to do with your CV
A barista or shift leader jobYou apply online, and the form has a CV section that asks you to upload your CV as a Word, PDF or image file. Every section must be complete before you can submit the application.Download the Word file on this page, change every detail to your own and upload it. Send the Word or PDF file rather than a photo of a printed page.
The questions after your CVThe form asks whether you are 18 or over, have the right to work in the UK, can commit to a permanent role and are happy to do cleaning tasks. Then it asks, in a few sentences, why you are applying, your availability in a typical week, and how you would travel to the store and how long it would take.Write your few sentences on why you are applying before you start, built on a line from your CV, and check your journey for the earliest shift.

On an opening shift you start about 45 minutes before the store opens, and on a closing shift you stay up to 30 minutes after it closes.Put your availability and how you get to work on the CV, so the CV and the form say the same.

How to write yours

01

Write your ‘why’ first

The form asks, in a few sentences, why you are applying. Draft it before you start, from one line of your CV such as a team you led or a regular you looked after, so it reads as yours and not as a stock answer.

02

Check the journey for an opening shift

Openers start about 45 minutes before the store opens, and the form asks you to confirm you can travel to the store for every kind of shift. Work out your journey for the earliest start before you apply.

03

Show you can run a shift

Shift leader adverts ideally want supervisor or team leader experience, from any kind of shop. Opening and closing, cashing up and coaching show it; the coffee is trained.

04

Make the service personal

Caffè Nero describes its service as 1-2-1: each customer’s coffee made exactly how they like it. A line showing personal service, with a figure if you have one, fits better than “good customer service”.

Questions about a Caffè Nero CV

Do I need a CV to apply to Caffè Nero?

Yes. Its application form has a CV section that asks you to upload your CV as a Word, PDF or image file, and every section must be complete before you can submit (Caffè Nero, checked 18 October 2026).

How old do I have to be to work at Caffè Nero?

18 or over. The application says Caffè Nero cannot employ anyone under 18, for health and safety reasons (Caffè Nero).

Do I need coffee experience?

No. Barista adverts say no experience is required, and shift leader adverts say no coffee experience is required, with training given. For shift leader, some supervisor or team leader experience is ideal but not essential (Caffè Nero).

Can I apply for a temporary job?

Barista and shift leader adverts are for permanent roles, and the form asks you to confirm you can commit to one. The careers site also lists temporary team member roles (Caffè Nero).

Will an unspent conviction stop me?

Not necessarily. The form asks about unspent convictions, and Caffè Nero says this does not mean it won’t consider you: it weighs how relevant a conviction is to the role (Caffè Nero).

Keep it to one page. A shift leader CV with your current role, a figure for service or cash and your availability gives the store everything the form does not ask.
