McDonald’s CV example

You do not need a CV for a McDonald’s crew job: McDonald’s says you apply online in 10 to 15 minutes, and its virtual assistant, Olivia, takes your application.

Shift leader adverts ask for experience of leading a team, and writing a CV is the quickest way to get that experience straight before you apply. Profile

Shift supervisor with two years running shifts of up to 14 crew in a busy drive-thru restaurant, after two years on the crew. Plans each shift from the sales forecast, keeps the food safety checks on time and coaches new starters on every station. Looking for a shift leader post.

Experience

Shift Supervisor, Kerbside Kitchen, Doncaster August 2024–present

Run early, late and weekend shifts for up to 14 crew in a drive-thru restaurant serving about 9,000 orders a week.

Plan each shift from the sales forecast and the rota: who works the grill, assembly, front counter and drive-thru window, and when breaks fall.

Walk the restaurant with the checklist before each shift and complete the food safety and temperature checks on time; the restaurant kept its food hygiene rating of 5 at its 2025 inspection.

Cut the average drive-thru time from 3 minutes 40 seconds to 2 minutes 55 seconds in six months by putting a second crew member on the window at peak times.

Coach new starters on each station and give feedback during the shift; trained 22 new crew in 2025.

Keep breaks and finish times for under-18 crew within the rules.

Count the tills and record waste at close, and write the handover for the next supervisor.

Crew Member, Kerbside Kitchen, Doncaster July 2022–August 2024

Worked every station, from the grill and fryers to the front counter and drive-thru, on shifts around college.

Crew member of the month twice in 2023.

How McDonald’s takes applications

How you applyWhat it meansWhat to do with your CV
A crew member job (most restaurant jobs)McDonald’s says you don’t even need a CV. You apply online, which takes 10 to 15 minutes; Olivia, its virtual assistant, takes your application, answers questions and arranges your interview. No experience is needed, and full training is given. No CV to upload. Writing one still helps: it puts your school, any jobs and their dates, and the days and shifts you can work in one place for the application, and gives you examples for the interview.
A shift leader or other restaurant management jobYou apply online in the same way. Shift leader adverts ask for previous experience of managing and leading teams in retail, hospitality, business or another customer-focused job.Write the CV first, so each requirement in the advert has a line from your own experience ready for the application and the interview. Download the Word file on this page and change every detail to your own.
Handing a CV in at a restaurantMcDonald’s says every restaurant advertises its vacancies on its careers site, so a restaurant with none listed is not hiring. Most restaurants are run by franchisees, who employ their own staff.Apply to an advert on people.mcdonalds.co.uk instead, and keep checking: new roles are added daily.

McDonald’s values and pay

  • Serve
  • Inclusion
  • Integrity
  • Community
  • Family

McDonald’s adverts name these five values, and its interviews ask about your values and attitudes. Have a short example ready for two or three of them, such as a time you helped a colleague or looked after a customer who needed it.

Pay

Pay is on each advert, and it differs between restaurants. Two shift leader adverts, checked 18 October 2026, offered £14.66 an hour in Hampshire and £8.00 to £12.71 in Berkshire, the legal minimum for each age band. For comparison, the legal minimum from April 2026 is £12.71 an hour at 21 and over, £10.85 at 18 to 20 and £8.00 under 18 (GOV.UK). Hourly-paid staff are usually paid every two or four weeks, and hours between midnight and 5am earn extra pay (McDonald’s).

How to write yours

01

Answer the advert’s requirements

Shift leader adverts ask for experience of leading a team in retail, hospitality or another customer-facing job. Give each requirement a line in your most recent job, with the size of the team and the shifts you ran.

02

Show the shift from start to finish

The advert splits the job into before, during and after the shift. Show one thing you do at each stage: planning from the forecast, running the stations, and the handover at close.

03

Put your availability on the CV

Every McDonald’s advert names the days and shifts it needs and asks you to apply only if you can work them. A one-line availability section answers that before anyone asks.

04

Give a figure for speed or quality

Drive-thru times, hygiene ratings, waste and the number of crew you trained are the figures a restaurant runs on. One or two before-and-after figures say more than a list of duties.

Questions about a McDonald’s CV

Do I need a CV to work at McDonald’s?

Not for a crew job: McDonald’s says you don’t even need a CV. You apply online in 10 to 15 minutes, and Olivia, its virtual assistant, takes your application and arranges your interview. Real recruiters make every hiring decision (McDonald’s, checked 18 October 2026).

How old do I have to be to work at McDonald’s?

It depends on where you live: McDonald’s says the date you can start work differs across the UK and Ireland. Overnight shifts need you to be 18 or over, because of the Working Time Regulations, as an overnight crew advert read 18 October 2026 says.

What does the interview ask?

Questions about your values and attitudes. McDonald’s gives the example of a time you worked as part of a team and how you made a difference to it, and says it hires for qualities and potential rather than qualifications. Have one example ready from school, sport, volunteering or a past job (McDonald’s).

Can I apply to more than one restaurant?

Yes, to as many vacancies and places as you like, but McDonald’s considers one of your applications at a time, so apply first for the job you want most (McDonald’s).

What do I need if I am offered the job?

Proof of your right to work in the UK. McDonald’s asks for original documents, such as a valid passport, and accepts only originals (McDonald’s).

I work at McDonald’s. How do I put it on my CV for another job?

Write it as any other job: your title, the restaurant’s town and your dates, then two or three lines with numbers, such as the stations you work, the new starters you train or a faster drive-thru time. Most restaurants are run by franchisees, who employ their own staff, so for references give the company named on your contract or payslip as well as McDonald’s.

Keep the CV to one page. A shift leader CV with your last two jobs, your food safety training and your availability covers everything the advert asks for.

CVs for other restaurant and first jobs

Crew jobs do not ask for a CV, but a complete example helps you fill in the application and get ready for the interview.
