Waiter CV example

A waiter or waitress CV should show the kind of restaurant, how many covers and tables you look after, and the moments that matter to a manager: knowing the menu and allergens, upselling politely, handling payments and putting a complaint right. If this is your first restaurant job, customer service from a shop or call centre counts.

How to write yours

01

Give covers and tables

“A section of six to eight tables, up to 120 covers” tells a restaurant manager your pace in one line.

02

Show menu and allergen knowledge

Checking allergens properly matters to every restaurant. A bullet on how you do it reassures a manager more than “great customer service”.

03

Mention selling, politely

Recommending wines and desserts lifts the bill. Say you do it, and keep any figure to one you could explain.

04

Put your availability on

Evenings, weekends and bank holidays decide restaurant rotas. Add one line saying when you can work.

Checks and qualifications to mention

  • No experience? You can apply for waiter jobs without experience, as you'll get training on the job; customer service experience can give you an advantage (National Careers Service).
  • Food hygiene. Not always needed to apply, but give the level and year if you have it.
  • Pay and hours. Advertised pay is often a full-time figure; actual pay depends on the hours you work (National Careers Service). Ask how many hours a week the job offers.
