Name the ward or setting, list observations and competencies with dates, and keep your Care Certificate and mandatory training where a ward manager can find them.

How to write yours

01

Name the ward and the patients

“A 28-bed acute medical ward” or “a 40-bed nursing unit” tells a ward manager what you are used to. “A busy healthcare setting” tells them nothing.

02

Date your clinical skills

Observations, blood glucose, venepuncture and ECGs are signed-off competencies. Give the year you were signed off so the ward knows what you can do on day one.

03

Show how you escalate

One line about reporting a rising score or a change in a patient shows judgement, which matters more to a ward than a list of qualities.

04

Use it to prepare the NHS form

Most NHS posts are applied for on an online form with a supporting statement. Copy your dates and duties from this CV into the form, and send the CV itself to care homes, agencies and private hospitals.

Checks and qualifications to mention

  • Care Certificate. New healthcare support workers in England complete it during induction. It has had 16 standards since March 2025 (Skills for Care, checked 9 October 2026). Give the year you finished.
  • Enhanced DBS check. The National Careers Service lists enhanced background checks for this job. If your certificate is on the DBS Update Service, say so: an employer can check it online with your permission.
  • Qualifications. The National Careers Service names the Healthcare Support Worker Level 2 and Senior Healthcare Support Worker Level 3 apprenticeships. A diploma or apprenticeship at either level goes in with its year.
  • NHS values. The National Careers Service says you would be expected to understand how the NHS values apply in your work. Show one with an example in your supporting statement rather than listing them on the CV.

One or two pages. Keep your current ward on page one with your observations and competencies; older care jobs can shrink to two lines each.
