Assistant accountant CV example

An assistant accountant or accounting technician CV should show the accounts you keep and how accurately: ledgers, reconciliations, VAT returns, month-end journals and the systems you use. Give your AAT or ACCA level and where you are in your studies, because employers shortlist on both.

How to write yours

01

Put your qualification level first

AAT or ACCA level and exams passed are how finance teams shortlist. Give them in the profile and under Qualifications.

02

Name the month-end tasks

Accruals, prepayments, reconciliations and VAT are the core of the job. List which you do yourself and which you prepare for review.

03

Give volumes and deadlines

Invoices a month and “by the fourth working day” show the scale and the pace.

04

Show one clean-up

Clearing old queries or improving a reconciliation routine shows care for accuracy that employers look for.

Checks and qualifications to mention

  • GCSEs and A levels. Employers will look for up to 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C), including English and maths; A level business studies, maths or economics can also be useful (National Careers Service).
  • AAT and ACCA. The National Careers Service points to the Association of Accounting Technicians and the ACCA for courses. Give your level and exams passed, and say if you are studying.
  • Apprenticeships. An Accounts or Finance Assistant apprenticeship goes in with its level and year.

One page suits most assistant accountant roles. Keep systems and qualifications easy to find; finance recruiters scan for both.
