Retail manager CV example

A retail or store manager CV should lead with the size of what you run: the store's turnover or sales, the team, the budgets and the results you changed. Then show how you recruit and train, handle stock and losses, and run promotions and reports for head office.

How to write yours

01

Lead with the size of the store

Turnover or sales, team size and budgets tell an area manager your level before anything else.

02

Give results with a comparison

“Sales up 9% against a regional average of 3%” shows your effect, not the market's.

03

Show people development

Promotions, training and recruitment are what separate a store manager from a supervisor. Give each a number.

04

Name losses and stock

Shrinkage and stock accuracy are measured in every chain. A before-and-after figure is strong evidence.

Checks and qualifications to mention

  • Routes in. Many retail managers start as sales assistants or supervisors and work up; others join a graduate management training scheme after a degree (National Careers Service). Show each step with its dates.
  • Apprenticeships. A retail leadership or team leader apprenticeship goes in with its level and year.
  • Figures you can explain. Use sales, budget and loss figures you could talk through, and say over what period.

Two pages are fine for a store manager with several roles; keep the current store and its results on page one.
