Security officer CV example

A security officer CV, also called a security guard CV, opens with your SIA licence type and expiry, then shows the sites you have guarded, the patrols, CCTV and access control you run and how you handle incidents and reports. Calm, firm and polite is the skill every security manager looks for, so show it with one real situation.

How to write yours

01

Licence type and expiry first

Put your SIA licence type and expiry date in the header. It is a legal requirement for most security jobs and the first thing checked.

02

Describe the sites

Offices, retail, events and hospitals ask for different skills. Say the type and size of site, and whether static or mobile.

03

Show your reports

Clear written reports matter to clients, insurers and police. A bullet on who uses your reports shows their value.

04

Give one situation

A line on handling a challenging person or an incident, kept anonymous, shows the calm, firm manner every security manager wants.

Checks and qualifications to mention

  • SIA licence. To work legally in many security guard jobs you need a front line Security Industry Authority licence, after an approved licence-linked qualification (National Careers Service). Give the licence type and expiry date.
  • Age and checks. You need to be over 18 and pass enhanced background checks; the SIA checks your personal and work history, including your criminal record, when you apply (National Careers Service).
  • Experience from other services. Experience in the police or armed forces can help you get into this job (National Careers Service). If you have it, give it its own entry.

One page is right for most security jobs. Keep your licence, sites and shift availability in the first half.
