Teacher CV example: a primary teacher with QTS

A teacher CV should open with your qualified teacher status, the key stage and year groups you teach and any responsibility you hold. Then show how you plan, adapt for pupils with SEND, work with teaching assistants and parents, and what you lead beyond your class. Many state schools ask for their own application form, so this CV also helps you fill it in.

How to write yours

01

Lead with QTS and your key stage

Heads shortlist on QTS, phase and year groups first. Put all three in your profile and your training route under Qualifications.

02

Show one responsibility

A subject lead, a club or a whole-school project shows what you would add beyond your class. One entry with what you changed is enough.

03

Name the pupils you adapt for

“Six pupils on the SEND register” and how you adapted lessons is the evidence schools look for when they ask about inclusion.

04

Expect an application form

Many state schools and trusts use their own form, often through the Teaching Vacancies service. Send this CV to agencies and independent schools, and copy its dates and examples into the form.

Checks and qualifications to mention

  • Qualified teacher status. You'll usually need QTS to teach in a state school in England (National Careers Service). Put it beside your training route and the year it was awarded.
  • Safeguarding in England. All school staff must read Part one of Keeping Children Safe in Education 2026, in force from 1 September 2026. Naming the edition shows your training is current.
  • Enhanced DBS check. Teaching needs an enhanced background check. If your certificate is on the DBS Update Service, say so: a school can then check it online with your permission.
  • Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Teachers register with the General Teaching Council for Scotland, the Education Workforce Council in Wales or the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland. Give the register and your number.

Two pages are normal for an experienced teacher. Keep your current post and responsibility on page one, and cut older placements to a line each.
