Profile

College leaver with two years of Saturday work in a busy garden centre café and shop: serving at the tills, restocking shelves and helping customers find what they need. Stays calm and friendly when the queue builds, and learns a new routine quickly. Finished a Level 3 business diploma in June 2026. Help customers find products and carry heavy items to their cars, and pass plant-care questions to the garden team.

Suggested marking down the café’s unsold cakes in the last hour of the day; cake waste fell by about half.

Showed two new Saturday starters how to use the tills in 2025.

Volunteer Coach, Moss Lane Juniors FC, Bolton September 2023–present

Help run Sunday-morning training for 14 under-9s: set out the kit, run drills and keep the attendance register.

How Tesco takes applications

How you applyWhat it meansWhat to do with your CV
A store, warehouse or driver job (most Tesco jobs)You apply online to an advert and create a profile. The form asks you some questions, then asks you to upload your CV; for some roles you may be able to apply with your LinkedIn or Indeed profile instead. Store roles may add a scenario exercise or an online chat assessment.Have the Word file ready before you start, saved on your phone or computer rather than a shared drive, and not password protected, or the upload can fail. Answer the questions carefully: some are checked automatically against the role’s minimum criteria.
An office or technology jobYou apply online in the same way. Office interviews last 60 to 90 minutes, and some include a task or technical questions about the advert.Tailor the CV to the advert, as Tesco recommends wherever a CV is mandatory: use its key words for work you have actually done, and keep it to two pages.
Sending a CV by emailTesco cannot accept applications by email, and advises against emailing documents, because email is not a secure way to send them.Apply to an advert on Tesco Careers, so your CV reaches the right hiring manager, and set up a job alert for your area.

From Tesco’s application FAQs and hiring process, checked 18 October 2026. Each advert lists the days and times its shifts fall in.

Tesco’s Win Together behaviours and pay

  • Believe in each other
  • Be brave
  • Live 20/80
  • Stay curious

Most of a Tesco interview is questions on these four behaviours, such as “Describe a time when you were part of a winning team”, and Tesco asks you to answer with the STAR method: situation, task, action, result (Tesco interview guide, checked 18 October 2026). The interview also walks through your CV, so every line on it is a story you may be asked to tell. Jade’s cake markdown fits “Live 20/80”, which Tesco explains as doing the few things that make the biggest difference.

Pay

Tesco Colleague pay starts at £13.28 an hour, or £14.55 in stores inside the M25, and a Shift Leader starts at £15.59, or £16.86 inside the M25; some locations pay more (two Tesco store adverts, checked 18 October 2026). Shifts are set within the advert’s availability window, with at least three weeks’ notice, and colleagues get 10% off with a Colleague Clubcard, rising to 15% on pay day weekends.

How to write yours

01

Follow Tesco’s four Cs

Tesco’s own CV tips: concise (aim for two pages, three or four at most), clear (a standard font such as Arial or Calibri), consistent (a clear layout with clear sections) and correct (spelling checked, with key words from the advert). For a first job, one page is plenty.

02

Put your availability on it

Every Tesco store advert lists the days and times your shifts will fall in. You do not have to be free for the whole window, and Tesco asks you to apply if your availability is close. A short availability line lets the store compare at a glance.

03

Count experience from anywhere

Tesco says your experience matters wherever it comes from: a job, volunteering, school or a hobby. Jade’s Sunday coaching shows teamwork and turning up on time as well as a job would.

04

Use AI to check, not to write

Tesco is happy for you to use AI to check spelling, grammar and layout, or to see that you have covered the advert’s key points. It asks you not to use it to write your CV from scratch or to make up examples.

Questions about a Tesco CV

Do I need a CV to apply to Tesco?

Usually, yes. Tesco says its online application asks you some questions and then asks you to upload your CV. For some roles you may be able to apply with your LinkedIn or Indeed profile instead, and for others the CV is mandatory, so have one ready before you start (Tesco, checked 18 October 2026).

Why was I turned down before I finished the form?

Some answers are checked automatically against the role’s minimum criteria, so the email can arrive before you have finished. You cannot apply for the same role again, but you can apply for others, now or later. Tesco suggests reading your answers again as if you were the customer (Tesco).

How long does Tesco take to reply?

Up to five weeks for a store or distribution centre role. For an office role, Tesco aims to be in touch within two weeks of the closing date (Tesco).

What happens at a Tesco store interview?

Store, warehouse and distribution interviews last 30 minutes and are held in person. The questions are on Tesco’s four behaviours, and you can take notes in with you. Before a store interview you complete an online right to work check, then bring the same documents to the interview (Tesco, checked 18 October 2026).

How old do I have to be to work at Tesco?

You need to have reached school leaving age, which differs across the UK. Some roles ask for more: the Tesco Colleague advert this CV answers asks you to be over 18 (Tesco).

Can I apply for more than one Tesco job?

Yes, as many as you are interested in, though Tesco suggests choosing the roles that fit your skills and goals. Write each application for its own advert (Tesco).

Keep a first-job CV to one page. Tesco’s tips allow two, but one page with your job, your qualifications and your availability covers everything a store manager looks for.
