Software developer CV example

A software developer's CV shows what you built and how: the product, your languages and frameworks, how you test and release, and one result a user or the business noticed.

Keep the stack in its own list so it can be checked against the advert. This example is a developer with four years on a web product.

How to write yours

01

Say what the software does

One line on the product and its users tells a hiring manager the scale before the stack.

02

Give a result per bullet

Fewer failed bookings or faster pages show the change mattered; keep figures you could explain.

03

Keep the stack checkable

List languages, frameworks and tools you have shipped with, not ones you tried once.

04

Link code you may share

A GitHub link helps only if the code is yours to publish; never link an employer's private code.

Rules and checks for a software developer's CV

  • Routes in. You can become a software developer through a degree, a college course or an apprenticeship, such as the Software Developer Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship (National Careers Service). Experience counts as much as the route.
  • Technical tests. Many employers set a coding test or a pairing session; keep the CV's stack to what you could use in one.
  • Confidential work. Describe what you built and its effect, not client names, code or data your contract keeps private.

Compact and one page: experience and the tech list stay together, and the layout reads cleanly in applicant tracking systems.
