Questions about a finance officer CV

Can I start as a finance assistant?

You may be able to start as a finance assistant or accounts assistant, then move into a finance officer role through on-the-job training and promotion (National Careers Service). Keep that first job on your CV, as this one does.

Can I become a finance officer through an apprenticeship?

You could do an Accounts or Financial Assistant Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship, an Assistant Accountant Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship or a Business Administrator Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship (National Careers Service). Give the apprenticeship, its level and the year.

What do I need to apply directly?

You’ll usually need a minimum of 4 or 5 GCSEs, including maths and English, and employers may expect relevant A levels such as maths or business studies; knowledge of accounting methods and experience in a financial department will help (National Careers Service). Put your maths and English grades under Qualifications.

Which college courses help?

Courses that may help you get a trainee position include accounting and bookkeeping, business studies, business administration and finance, and the T Level in Accounting (National Careers Service). Give the course and the year you finished it.

How do I show I want to become a finance manager?

With experience you could become a senior or principal finance officer, or a finance manager, in a commercial company or a public sector organisation, or train to become an accountant (National Careers Service). If that is your aim, say so in the last line of your profile.
