How to write yours

01

Put the target beside the result

“108% of a £2.4 million target in 2025” says more than “exceeded targets”.

02

Show the team, not only yourself

How many people you lead, how many you hired and how you coach them is what a manager’s CV adds to a seller’s.

03

Say what you sell and to whom

The product and the buyers (schools, factories, councils) tell a new employer how close their market is to yours.

04

Own your forecast

Say which numbers you report and to whom; directors promote managers whose forecasts they trust.

Questions about a sales manager CV

Do I need a degree to be a sales manager?

You’ll need experience in sales and a record of achieving targets. Employers will often consider your sales and management experience, market knowledge and track record to be more important than your academic qualifications (National Careers Service). Put your results in the first lines of each job.

How do I show promotion from sales supervisor?

You could work as a sales supervisor or assistant manager and complete professional qualifications while you work (National Careers Service). Give each step and each qualification with its year.

Which sales apprenticeships should I list?

You could do a Sales Executive Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship, or a Business to Business Sales Professional Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship for management roles selling to businesses (National Careers Service). List the apprenticeship with its level.

Can I move into specialist sales management?

You could apply for specialist sales management if you have a background in designing or making the products your team sells, for example medical technology or construction equipment (National Careers Service). Put that background in your profile.

Should I list a second language?

A second language may be useful if you work for an international sales company, or one that sends you overseas to meet clients (National Careers Service). List it with your level, such as “German, business level”.
