CV after redundancy example

A CV after redundancy treats the redundancy as what it is: the end of a job, not a judgement on you.

Say in one line that the role was made redundant, then spend the space on what you did there, and add anything you have done since. This example is a production team leader whose food factory closed after 14 years.

How to write yours

01

One line on the redundancy

“Role made redundant when the site closed” in the profile, and “(site closed)” beside the end date, answer the question once. You do not have to give more.

02

Split a long job into what you led

Fourteen years at one employer reads better as your current role in full and the earlier one in a line, with the numbers that show the size of the job.

03

Add what you did since

A course you took during your notice or after it, like IOSH Managing Safely, shows you used the time and gives the CV a recent date.

04

Keep the tone forward-looking

Say what you are looking for next. Leave out how the closure was handled; save that for a conversation if anyone asks.

Rules and checks for a CV after redundancy

What should I say about my redundancy?

GOV.UK describes redundancy as a form of dismissal that happens when employers need to reduce their workforce. It is about the job, so “role made redundant” is an honest, complete answer on a CV.

Can I take time off to look for work?

If you are being made redundant, you might be eligible for time off to find a new job, as well as redundancy pay and a notice period (GOV.UK: Redundancy: your rights). Use it for applications and courses.

Which training should I list?

The National Careers Service names apprenticeships such as Food and Drink Process Operator Level 2 and Lean Manufacturing Operative Level 2. List any you hold with the year.

Classic and one page: a plain reverse-chronological layout suits manufacturing employers and agencies, and keeps the long job and its end date easy to follow.
